Larry Scanlon Larry Scanlon started his carving career in the 1980's. His degree in mechanical engineering and his experience teaching engineering drawing at the High School level provided him understanding how the old masters carved their decoys. Larry started competitive carving in the local level. During the 1990's Larry competed at the New England Championship and at the world championship in Ocean City, Maryland receiving numerous awards. Larry has attended many decoy shows and auctions to observe the original decoys. His training as a mechanical engineer gave him the discipline, patience and quest for precision that is required to create such beautiful works with incredible detail. Many of his decoys have been commissioned to be part of several private collections. Now, Larry carves for enjoyment. He particularly enjoys carving Whales, Shore Birds, Ducks, Song Birds and Fish.
